ABOUT US

The South Florida Consortium for Restorative Justice is dedicated to the promotion of alternatives to mass incarceration in general and specifically, to executions. Members include students, faculty, and staff from colleges and universities, faith-based leaders, community activists, and others dedicated to the promotion of fundamental human rights. Through education and organizing, the Consortium helps build community partnerships that will result in the elimination of Florida's death penalty and the use of restorative and transformative alternatives to mass incarceration.

The U.S is the only developed country performing the capital punishment.

 

China,Iran,Iraq,Saudi Arabia,and the U.S.

were the top 5 executing nations in 2013.

WHY IT MATTERS
 

It is a costly option. And WE are paying for it.

 

The ANNUAL ammount Florida Taxpayers pay to try to enforce the death penalty is $51 MILLION +.  This is over and above the cost 

Florida's numbers make a difference.

 

1 of 5 new death sentences in the U.S. are from Florida.

Religious Organizations are against it.

 

The Catholic Church and other religious organizations have long opposed the use of the death penalty. On October 23, 2014, The Pope released a strong mandate this morning against the use of the death penalty.

"It is impossible to imagine that states today cannot make use of another means than capital punishment to defend peoples’ lives from an unjust aggressor.”

Race is still an issue.

 

NEVER in the history of Florida (168 years) has a white person been executed for killing and African American
